Montrose Play & Trade and Practice Tournament
Casual play & trade day at the Montrose Library! Play, trade, and earn cool promos! Whether you play the Pokémon video games, trading card game, or Pokémon GO, we’ve got something for everyone!
We’re going to be doing a fun practice tournament along with our usual Trade & Play session! If you’re ready to take your game to the next level, join our fun practice tournament to get a taste of competitive Pokémon! Plus, there will be free prizes for all participants!
Please note that you do not have to be playing in the tournament to attend our Saturday session! We will still have trading and activities available for those who don’t want to do the tournament!
IMPORTANT! Due to the hard closing time of the library, we must start the tournament portion absolutely no later than 3:00pm so please arrive before then if you wish to participate!
How it works:

Each player will use a 60-card deck that follows the official Standard Format. To be legal for Standard, cards must have a regulation mark of F or later.
The only exception would be that you can use older versions of cards that have been reprinted in Standard-legal sets. For example, cards like Boss’s Orders (old version vs. newest version) or Super Rod (old version vs. newest version).
Players will be paired up by age division, and play three 30-minute, best-of-one rounds. Tournaments are run using Swiss pairings, which means that every player plays in each round and is paired up with opponents with similar win-loss records. At the end, prizes will be award to the top places, and all participants will receive additional Prize Packs!
What if I don’t have a tournament-legal deck?
Not to worry! Professor Zack will have some of his personal decks available for players to borrow if needed.
2:00-3:00pm will be spent with the usual play & trade activities, but will also be the time for players to prepare for the tournament. Those interested in participating will receive deck list sheets, player IDs, and more detailed instructions of how to prepare and what to expect. We will start the tournament at 3:00pm sharp so that we can be sure to be done before the library closes.
Again, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PLAY IN THE TOURNAMENT! You’re more than welcome to just hang out, watch, play casually and trade just like any other club session! There should be plenty of people hanging out, so don’t worry about feeling left out!
