On May 11, we had our League Cup tournament in Montrose! Here are the decks that took 1st and 2nd in the Junior and Master divisions. Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to everyone that came and played!
On April 22nd, we had our monthly League Challenge tournament! We had a nice amount of players, with 6 Masters and 1 Junior having a great time. Here are the decks that took top 3 in the Masters’ division!
Are you ready for a new way to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game? Then take on the Gym Leader Challenge!
Gym Leader Challenge (“GLC” for short) is a fun, challenging, and diverse format that lets you use a much larger pool of cards than the typical Standard format we use in tournaments! In Gym Leader Challenge, players specialize in a single type of Pokémon and build their deck only using that type of Pokémon, like a Gym Leader would!
While we don’t have any GLC tournaments sanctioned yet (though, we hope to hope to have one in June!) we do have some fun rewards for trainers who want to take the Gym Leader Challenge during our biweekly casual league sessions in Montrose! Any player who defeats Professor Zack in a GLC battle at League will be given their pick of official Pokémon Prize Pack promo cards to commemorate their success!
And for those wanting to take their Gym Leader Challenge to the next level, starting April 19th, challengers can be given a Victory Tracker card by Professor Zack. Use this card to track when you win a GLC match with anyone at League with each type of deck. Win with all 11 types, and you’ll receive a special award for mastering them all!
Learn more about the deckbuilding rules of the GLC format, including what cards are and are not allowed to be used, on our Gym Leader Challenge page, and join our Discord server to discuss decks and strategies with the local community!
On March 23rd, we had Montrose’s first League Cup tournament of the year! We had players from all over the Western Slope, from Telluride to Carbondale, and everywhere in between!
Thank you to everyone that came and made for another successful tournament at Box Buster Sports Cards! Here are the top 3 decklists in the Juniors and Masters divisions (no Seniors this time). Congratulations to the winners!
We will be holding THREE prerelease events for the upcoming Temporal Forces set! These events will be Wednesday March 13, Thursday March 14, and Friday March 15!
Check-in each day will begin at 3:30pm, with deck-building starting no later than 4:00pm, and the tournament portion beginning by 4:30pm. The cost for each event is $30 per person.
If you’ve never attended a Pokémon prerelease event, here’s how it works:
At the beginning of the event, each player will receive 1 Build & Battle Box, which will include:
A 40-card ready-to-play deck
1 of 4 alternate-art promo cards
4 Temporal Forces booster packs
1 deck-building tip sheet
Players will then be given about 20-30 minutes to open their boxes and packs, and build a 40-card deck with the contents. (No trading with other players yet!) Players will be paired for a short, 3-round tournament of single-match games played with 4 prize cards rather than the usual 6. At the end, all players will receive 3 additional Temporal Forces booster packs!
Registration is $30 per person, and you can register in-store at Box Buster Sports Cards in Montrose. Space is limited, so we highly encourage registering beforehand, though you may register on-site the day of the event if there are any spots remaining.
IMPORTANT: Kits MUST be picked up in-store during the event! Staying for the tournament is optional (but encouraged!). If you opt to not stay for the tournament, you will only receive a Build & Battle Box and no additional booster packs! Any Build & Battle Boxes and booster packs that are remaining after the event will be available for early purchase on Monday, March 18th!
We will be holding our March League Challenge tournament on Monday, March 11th. $10 entry fee, check-in from 3:30-4pm, tournament starts at 4pm. Best-of-1, 30-minute Swiss rounds with prizing for top places in each age division. See you there!
